3-Day Classic Zhangjiajie Itinerary
Two days inside the Wulingyuan World Heritage area, then one full day on Tianmen Mountain — the most balanced first trip to Zhangjiajie for groups of 2–6.
Day 1 — Yuanjiajie & Golden Whip Stream
Enter the forest park at the Wulingyuan ticket gate (signs also say "Wulingyuan Entrance"). A practical order for a first day:
- Yuanjiajie — the "Hallelujah Mountain" area made famous by Avatar; walk the loop with the best pillar views.
- Golden Whip Stream (Jinbianxi) — the classic valley trail, mostly flat, stream, peaks and monkeys on both sides.
- End the day with the Ten-Mile Gallery if energy allows (mini train both ways saves time).
To reach Yuanjiajie from the gate you use the Bailong Elevator or the cableway from the park's own transport — one of them is usually included in a private route so you do not queue twice.
Day 2 — Tianzi Mountain & the Ten-Mile Gallery
A second Wulingyuan day adds the other side of the heritage area:
- Tianzi Mountain — the widest, grandest panorama of sandstone pillars; the Tianzi cableway saves hours of mountain road.
- Descend by the Ten-Mile Gallery or the scenic shuttle to finish at the main gate.
If your group is not keen on a full second park day, swap it for the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge or Yellow Dragon Cave (see the 4-day variant on the tours page).
Day 3 — Tianmen Mountain
Tianmen is a separate scenic area, ~25 minutes from the city. Route A (the popular choice, ~228 RMB) uses the world's longest high-altitude passenger cableway up, then the glass cliff walkway and the natural arch (Tianmen Cave), then the 999 steps (or escalator) down, and returns by cableway or the winding mountain road.
- Book Route A early — the cableway seats sell out in high season.
- Bring a light jacket: the top of the mountain is noticeably cooler than the city.
- The glass walkway is included in the ticket; shoe covers are provided at the entrance.

Why book this as a private 2–6 pax tour
With a private car and a local driver-guide, the same three days take a very different shape: the park transport is pre-booked, the sequence follows the crowds in reverse, and meals and pace fit your group instead of a coach schedule. No shopping stops, no forced early starts.
